Common Questions About Sump Pump Cost

Is a sump pump just the pump, or the whole installation?
A sump pump installation means the whole system — the pump unit itself, the sump basin (the pit), the discharge pipework out to the surface drain, a non-return valve, electrical connection, and commissioning. Buying just the pump hardware separately is usually £200–£600; the rest of the cost is labour, materials, and guarantee.
Do I need battery backup?
If power cuts are common in your area, or the basement contains finished living space or valuables, yes. A battery backup runs the pump for roughly 6–8 hours during a power cut and adds £500–£1,500 to the base install. For unfinished cellars used for storage only, it's optional.
How long does the install take?
Most single-pump installs are finished in one working day. If we're breaking out a concrete floor to create a new sump pit, or running longer discharge pipes, it may extend to two days. The free survey confirms the timeline before you book.
What about ongoing running cost?
A domestic sump pump uses very little electricity — typically £5–£15 a year even in wet conditions. Annual servicing (recommended) costs around £80–£150.
Do you do emergency installs?
Yes — 24/7 emergency callout if your basement is actively flooding. Call 0800 061 4203 any time. Emergency callout fee from £200, waived if you proceed with a full install within 30 days.
Is the quote really free and no-obligation?
Yes. A qualified surveyor attends, inspects the basement, tests moisture readings, checks drainage routes, and emails you a fixed-price written quote within 24 hours. No charge, no pressure, no sales pitch — decide in your own time.
